I've taken to pulling one pump out of the tank every other week to soak and run in vinegar solution. Then scrape off the extra stuff. But it seems that after that first deep cleaning it's more of a maintenance thing than an actual deep cleaning.

50/50 mix of vinegar and water usually works for me, calcium and hard build up comes right off.

get the extra strength vineger at heb only comes in gallon size but its 2.50 and works fast, i use a glass just big enough to fit pump and fill with straight vineger takes about an hour or so and it just sloths off.

I do something similar to Chris and the others, but I put them in a 5 gallon bucket at a 2 part water to 1 part vinegar mix and turn the power heads on. I let the water flow do most of the work for me.

Yeah, that's what I did. Four power heads and two return pumps running all night. Had to change the water twice to stem the foul smell.

Thanks Forum Members!!!! Took the power heads, soaked them and then ran them in a solution of water and extra strength vinegar, the stuff just sloughed off....Running as good as new....
