Recommendations for a new camera plz?

I have a D40X that is roughly 4 years old and I am having problems with it, especially taking macro shots. Anyway, I am wanting to get a new camera that takes nice pictures, would be great for macro shots of my tank, corals, fish, etc that doesn't cost $1000. Anyone have any recommendations on a camera?

Any of the lower end bodies will be adequate for taking macro shots, it's the good lenses that begin costing a fortune. Canon's entry level macro lens is around $300. I shoot a Canon 450D with a 50mm fixed lens and extension tubes for macro.

Right now is the time to buy too..... Noticed alot of good deals around town while Xmas shopping. I just bought a T3i and couldn't be happier.... Well I could if I had a macro lens.

Ok, mine is lower end, but sure does take nice pics. It's a Panasonic Lumix FZ35.

I sure do like it, and at $250 you can't beat the price.

I'm picking up a Nikon D3100. It's 14mp and like Andrew said it takes 1080p video too. Seems like a very good camera for not that expensive of a price. I am a huge fan of Nikon myself. I own a Nikon D60 which is an entry lever DSLR. Like mentioned above an entry level body is good to start with. If you are looking to get macro style chots then that is when you can spend some pretty good money on a macro lens. OR if you are like me and can't afford $$ for a macro lens you can learn to take as I like to call "fake macro shots". All of my pictures are "fake macro" shots. Good luck to you what ever you decide to go with.

"fake" macro shots? Is that where you put the camera on macro shot then click without actually having a macro lens? Is there any OTHER way to take a picture then that? lol Guess I am a faker...plz don't tell me wife! lol

LOL I take pics using a kit lens and get as close as possible and take the pic. Then I crop the photo so it is up close. If you do it right it comes out looking like a macro. Check out my started threads about photography. The up close ones are cropped photos.

OMG those were NICE pics and beautiful corals...let me know when you frag lol Really nice pics though, I will have to try that. I still need a new camera though. The one my wife uses gets about as close as you would in Africa taking pictures of lions lol
