Default I know Bangaiis are easy breeders but....

My tank has been set up less than 6 weeks and I have been moving everything around trying to aquascape. I started with 3 smaller cardinals then after a bout 2 weeks, one started to get beat on and separated from the other 2. I removed him and all was fine. The other 2 get along great, but often are at least half the tank away from each other (125g). Now they are together in a little cove and the male has a mouthful!

Nice! So this mouthful, what's the survival rate of the brood?

survival rate? Giving my luck and past experiences, I have gotten a male with 4 mouthfuls and the longest he held was about 3 weeks or so, maybe a little longer. I'm just happy they paired this fast since I just got set up and I know I have a pair now! Hopefully I can get them to hatch out though, I know there are a few good threads on the process I will be rereading again!

Day 11 and my male is still holding! This pair is doing much better than the pair I had years ago!

If im not mistaken, the eggs should hatch about day 15 or so.. Then the male will hold them for another week and then release. Once you see the babies, actually eating or the male moving around what looks like "he's eating" and his mouth is open larger than normal its time for them to come out and or delivery is near.

Good luck on your new bundle. Day 11 is a good mark.

Wow, I didn't know that thank you! That kinda explains what may have happened to my other breedings several years ago...he probably didn't eat the eggs but spit them out and the other fish ate them. I had read somewhere that they held the eggs for about 25 days. Either it was bad info or I miss read. TY again!
