We fed semi-homemade for a while and had really good success with improving the allergic reaction that I was having to our dog. For a while I would break out with red rash-like bumps all over my arms within minutes of contact with Cleto's fur. After reading up on the subject we began introducing meals that were roughly a third meat, a third rice or pasta, and a third veggie. Often we would comment that our dog ate better than we did.
Soon the meat portion was commonly substituted for canned dog food out of convenience. Then we gave up the whole thing when we added a second dog and she would not touch the veggies. By then my allergic reaction had completely subsided so it became just the occasional treat. We still read the dogfood labels and stay away from the cornmeal and sawdust ones.
