Thread: Diatom bloom

    Default Diatom bloom

It's been a month since I got my 90 gal up and running. So the diatoms are right on track. Does
anyone know where in San Antonio I could find any pods? I've read up that they help by eating the
diatoms. I was hoping if a add some of these guys it'll help get rid of this bloom.
    any ideas ?

Personally I would just let the tank run it's course. You have live rock and some cleaners right? The pods should come...especially if you running a fuge with macro.

Polly's Pets has pods I believe if you want to seed it. If I remember correctly the ReefPods have the Tisbe sp. in them. Those are more sustainable than the tangerine/tigger pods in a reef tank.
And YES! they will do well on your diatoms. That's why you usually see a big pod bloom right after the tank is done cycling because they reproduce very well on diatoms - more so than on any other stuff they find later.
Also makes it kind of deceiving because people think 'WOW I got tons of pods' and assume it always will be like that.

Actually I think I will as well. My fuge light went out and I lost most of my macro and pod life (GFO assistance). That's cool they carry those as opposed to the tiggers...I don't like spending $20 a bottle monthly to feed my dragonette, and they just don't last long in my display.
