Maybe your sensor is shot?

NEW BUILD COMING SOON
lol is that the conclusion you draw from this?
If my Tunze ever dies I'll probably go back to ReefFanatic or similar. I liked not having to burn out my pump just because the snazzy thing has no shut off for when the reservoir runs dry. I think that's totally annoying. Sure it's just 20 bucks and I've not had to replace a burned out pump yet - but come on for that price? When systems half that price come with it... the magnet mount is nice I'll give it that

These reason I like these over float switches is the infared sensor doesn't have the chance of getting stuck. Mine does turn off after running for, I think, 5 minutes or something along those lines.
Kevin- 375 Gallon Reef
Reefing made easy...
I use a float sensor wired into an extension cord. A Tom's aqualifter is plugged into the cord. When juiced, the aqualifter pulls water from a 5 gallon jug. Total cost is about $25.
I have three jugs, one with Ca, the second with RO-DI, and the third with ALK. I switch back and forth between solutions -- 1,2,3,2,1 and so forth.
I use a second sensor higher up as a back up. another $9 or so.
Maintenance is cleaning the switch every so often to make sure those micro snails don't block the movement of the float. A little vinegar is all it takes.
The only other issue is that the outlet has to be higher than the jug of water or it will gravity feed into the sump as the aqualifter doesn't block that.
