Default My egg tumbler for bangai's

Ok, here is how it started. I knew the male was holding for the second time because he spit the first batch early and I missed it. I looked at the tank two nights ago and the males jaw line apeared larger than usual so I automatically figured he spit the eggs again early and was carrying again. I didn't want him to get any thinner so I caught him and stripped the eggs so I could fatten him up. To my surprise the eggs were the original second batch but are close to hatching. They have eyes and as of right now 5 have hatched out of about 25 or 30. I had to make a tumbler for them so I used a pyrex glass measuring cup with a maxi jet 1200 and ball valve. I put netting over the top of the measuring glass and hung it inside the 40 gallon frag tank. It works almost perfectly. here are couple photos. sorry they are sideways. I took the photos with my phone and I don't know how to rotate them.

Ingenious way to make a cheap homemade DYI McDonalds Jar. Looks like its working pretty well for you. Bet it is pretty exciting to have baby bangaiis. Keep us posted and good job stripping the male of the eggs

Thanks aggie, I didn't want to but feared he would starve. The tumbler was a last ditch effort really but so far has worked out nicely.

thats good that it is working out well for you. I have used a TLF phosban150 reactor in the past. Just make sure that if you have any hatch out that you take them out of the tumbler and put them in fry/grow out tank.

After talking with Ace and Solid I went with the recomendations they gave as far as taking the five that have hatched out and moved them to a petsmart basket breeder net. The rest of the eggs have yet to hatch but shouldn't be far behind the others. I am hoping for a good success rate but when it comes to eggs and tumbling its about a 50/50 in my opinion from what I have read. I have had only one that was completely white so far so I removed it and am continuing to tumble the rest. I also started a batch of BBS to get the process moving along once they all decide to join the rest of the world. Thanks guys.

Checked this afternoon and I noticed that another one had hatched so I moved it to the breeder net with the others. I lost one egg so far that was white, one hatchling that was white. so as of right now I have a total of 5 that are hatched and doing well. I would imagine that the other eggs can't be far behind now. I initially thought that the other eggs would have hatched by now but it looks like we have some early starters is all. Well, hope for the best. its a good sized clutch so I am hoping that I don't lose any more than I have.
