It doesn't seem to support the type of file my Canon Rebel creates. :(

So add another point to my list ;) : it needs to be able to work with whatever a Canon Rebel T1i creates

You can download a converter, then use it. I forget which converter we used, but it was free.

okay downloaded that thing and converted and the Windows program still doesn't want to deal with it because it can't find a codec thing. I am just going to look for an online editor. Good idea though on the converter/MS product. Would have been great of it had worked

Try CCCP (Combinded Community Codec Pack). It has the CODECs needed for just about anything out there. http://www.cccp-project.net/ It's free. Just install the CODECS, and don't worry about adjusting anything unless you really know about how videos work.

For converters, among other things: http://www.koyotesoft.com/indexEn.html The converters are free. You can install only the ones you need, or the complete suite of converters. I've been using several of the converters for years. Really simple and rarely a problem.

If for some reason the video your trying work with is corrupt somewhere in the file, you have a whole new problem to deal with.

Looks like your camera records in 1920x1080 High Definition video.
