I keep coming back to this book but since it's so pricey I was wondering if anybody owned it and how they liked it:

Marine Chemistry by Brightwell .... worth it or just meh?

I'd borrow it, but there are so many articles available online and my chemistry brain is really small I probably wouldn't buy it myself.
Home of the baby picasso!
I have that book!
When I first started reading it, I was disappointed. It started out very mundane to cover the bases, assuming the person reading the book was totally ignorant of the nitrogen cycle. I suppose that was necessary to appease the editors. The deeper into it I got, the better the information and explanations became.
I wish I was a better teacher... I read the book, and I grasped it. I'll admit some parts I had to read a couple of times. But to turn around and explain it to someone else... I don't have that kind of skill. I'd tell them to read a book. ;)
It's definitely written like a text book to an introductory course. No offense to the author; it's not supposed to be entertaining. The clam book had me laugh out loud at a few things; I appreciate a little levity in a serious discussion.
Over all, it was worth buying.
I'm willing to loan it out if you're interested.
I agree Lorraine - my chemistry brain is pea sized. I have read several articles and go back to them periodically. Once I think I might possibly maybe be some what close to understanding something a new article comes out and contradicts what I just read.
With that said I would love to read the book. I would go in halves with you Karin or maybe we can talk a certain someone who has the book to donate it to the library if Tebstan is still willing.

We should try and get clam guy for the next LMAR. In addition to good info he also seems to have some entertainment value. ;)
I bet he and Allan would really hit it off.
I'll see if I can get a used copy somewhere and if I do I'll donate it to the library (after I've worked my way through it of course)
I've also talked to the editors of the Advanced Aquarist publication awhile back suggesting that rather grouping their articles by year to group them by topic such as reef chemistry and sell those as special editions (they usually just bundle all of their articles from the same year into one edition). I'd love to have it all bound together rather than print a bunch of Randy Holmes-Farley articles off the web and deal with the stack of papers.
Thanks for the offer to let me borrow it tebstan! I might take you up on that if I can't find a used reduced priced one to buy![]()

This might help a little - http://www.maast.org/showthread.php?...brary-Rules***
Basically you would offer the book for loan then people would sign it out and return it when done.
