You would be surprised. We think GPS is the end all - but it's NOT. When charts were made a long, long time ago, they were done based upon celestial navigation. They are accurate in that one could repeat the sun or star sights, and navigate very well with the charts. However, GPS uses satellite, which is "different". You have to calibrate the GPS units to the local, usually by a code reference. For instance, down in the Virgin Islands, a GPS from the states will be up to a 1/2 mile "off"!
So, yes, it IS understandable...
