Default Mother Nature + Laws = Get Out Of My Habitat!

    Interesting read on Reef Builders...

    RE: http://reefbuilders.com/2011/04/26/n...ts/#more-33133

    Excerpt...

Giving rights to natural systems may not be saying cutting down a tree is equivalent to murder but it is touching on the notion that humans had inalienable rights to destroy communal entities like streams, forests, and even coral reefs.

    Excerpt...

Bolivia’s Law of Mother Earth is set to pass. On Wednesday the United Nations will discuss a proposed treaty based on the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Mother Earth (.pdf), which was drafted by environmentalists last year. Both mandate legal recognition of ecosystems’ right to exist.
So can/should ecosystems/habitats/natural systems, have legal rights?

Sounds like a new, creative way to sell the "rights" of forests and rivers to the highest bidding company (e.g. logging companies, power plants...)

Don't successful conservation efforts generally end in some sort of protection? "Legal rights" seems kind of moot, IMO.
