    Default Port A

I know this has been asked before and I did a search but I thought I'd ask anyway. I'm thinking about going to Port A this weekend and want to do some collecting. I'm mostly looking for peps but would not mind collecting other cool stuff as well. The jetty will be the first place I go.

My questions are, first, what time is best for collecting at the jetty? Night, early morning? Second, is there anywhere else that I should go look for things? If there anything that's in "season" now that I should be looking for? Any advice would be appreciated!

If I end up going and have extras, I'll post it and share the love!

One more question! I'm planning on taking the following equipment:

    2-3 5G buckets
A large air pump and several stones. Hopefully one that works in both a car and a normal outlet. An airline tube splitter.
a large net with small holes and maybe a smaller net

Anything else I should take besides the usual stuff like sunscreen, etc.? I was thinking about taking some Seachem stability and some dry rock I have to prevent an ammonia spike in my buckets.

David posted a good summary when I asked a similar question:

Why are you using stability and dry rock? You aren't really leaving them in there long enough for the dry rock to be colonized are you? I'd probably go with prime or something like it. Maybe stressguard (all from Seachem)

Thats a good point. I have both so I may just take them and my test kit. I was thinking that stability would help with nitrites and prime would only help with ammonia.

Also, I read that post already. Like I said, I'm already planning on going to the jetty. I'm looking for other places as well. Someone mentioned mangroves? I'm also looking for advice on what I should expect to find (what's in season).

    BUMP!

I've gathered some equipment and I think I'm going to be pretty prepared. A couple things I'm getting include a minnow trap (just to see what will come to some shrimp) and a crab/crawfish trap. I'm also getting a seine net and possibly a cast net.

On another note, if anyone local wants to meet up or if anyone wants to meet down there, we should be at the jetty around 9 or 10 PM. I suspect we'll be there pretty late. During the day I'm planning on going to some other spots (marshes, etc.) to see what I can find there. I know it's Easter weekend but if anyone's up for it, we'll be out there!

    Nice supply list!

I havent been to the beach in a week or so but if there is still sargassum algae washing up there will be cool little Sargassum fish throughout it. A seine net is pretty fun to use too, you can get some crazy stuff!
