my parents roof was totaled out because hail storm not too long ago, so when the new roof was put on, my dad had ridge vents installed. and wow the air movement in attic is noticiable and a lot cooler. we are about to upgrade our own AC to help with electric bill, should be a fun project with my dad.

nice! what kind of a/c system? I need to replace both my attic ladders to be a little more Texan friendly. They're labeled to be rated 180lbs...lmao...not since middle school, lol.

They will hold you for a couple trips. I have gone up them in full bunker gear before. Just step on the outside of the steps. LOL

We have looked into some of the stuff you are talking about for our house as well. We plan on doing them a couple projects a year starting with ridge vents and solar fans then radiant barrier and solar tinting windows. I would love to replace our A/C with a more efficient unit as well. CPS and GVEC have some useful info on their websites for easy things to do and upgrade to help with saving power.

Some of the solar fans for our sqft were about 4-500 dollars, not the kind sold at home depot. I'm going to look further as well into the ridge vents to be sure mine are adequate. The radiant barrier also intrigues me and thinking of getting one of the free quotes. The "energy savers" will be my only indoor mods as I want to finish the curb appeal of the home first and do the spit level yard in back. I looked at solar panels and even contemplated that with the free home estimates. I'm just scared to see how many zeros follow the quote, even though there is an alleged 60-70% rebate, lol. Although, home depot has a similar program, they instantly apply the rebates. Thinking of trying both companies out for estimates to see who will be playing the numbers game. Kind of like making the mistake of telling the car salesmans how much you'd like to pay a month.
