Default Daddy you're not going to fill it all the way?

How confused my 4 and 6 year old are by the new fish tank.

First we go to the fish store, while not uncommon for the family going to a store, actually seeing dad take out his wallet for something that isnt shoes or food seemed to surprise the kids. Then I tried to explain why we paid for a tank but didnt take it home so that it could be drilled.

Tank gets home, and the oldest asks if I'm going to fill it with water? No son, we have some plumbing to do. That leads to an interesting conversation about potties, sinks and the bath tub.

Get the plumbing done and the oldest gets home from school to actually see water in the tank. "Daddy, the tank is crooked." Yes it is, I'm going to take the water out and move it. Oldest, "Why didnt you just put it where you wanted it before you filled it?" This was just a leak test son, off on a tangent about how he doesnt have test yet but Mrs. A says he will have to take one soon.

Drain the tank, put it against the wall and outside we go to clean some rock and sand. "Daddy, why are you cleaning....nevermind can I use the hose?"

Rocks rinsed, sand rinsed. Sand in the tank, rock in the tank and I only have enough water to fill it about half way and have to make more. Oldest..."Daddy, you're not going to fill it all the way?!?!?!?"

After all this, how will I explain in a month into a two month cylce we get to actually buy a fish...only then to put it in a 10 gallon quarantine tank when we have a 90g sitting empty.

Cute. With my kids it was the opposite. They've been around fish tanks since they were born so when we brought home kittens from the cat shelter to foster them the first thing my oldest (then 3 years old) ask was: "So how are we going to acclimate these kittens?"

I bet your kids will love the tank and everything that goes with it!

Great story I have several like with my 8 and 10 year olds. I believe that family involvement is one of the benefits/enjoyments of the hobby. Gives us all something to do together, and build memories.

haha, love it! My 4 y/o is the same with the hose....you should have seen him at Ismael's house a couple of months ago while we were trying to load a tank...he even got mud all over his shoes and continued to walk inside on Ismael's carpet (sorry Ismael, I still feel horrible!)

I love hearing my 2 y/o say "Macro Algae"....something like "maaaarow alheeeeeee" lol

My 4 y/o likes to put a towel over his shoulder (like daddy) and says... "Zion help you dadda?" he likes to speak in third person as well...lol, guess we do the same too frequently... "dadda said no" or "mommy said no, please listen" lol

My little buddy Aiden loves to feed the fishies. "No, son, not today." "But we HAS to."
