Thread: Save the sea with marine art

Default Save the sea with marine art

We receive a newsletter from a group of conservationists we encountered down in Key West (called Reef Relief) and they are pushing a fundraiser right now that I thought some of you might like to see. They do a lot of really cool stuff to educate the next generation about preserving the reefs and beach clean up, etc. Here is a link to some of the projects they are raising funds for:

So right now they have a marine artist Gloria Clifford who has painted a special painting called Sea Mates (below) and is dedicating 25% of the proceeds to the Reef Relief group. Here is a link for more information:

Beautiful painting! I love the colors!!! I really enjoy her style.

Do you know how many prints she is planning to do for this run? Definitely for a good cause. I wish the Canvas Giclee's were more affordable...kind of hard to spend $1200 and not get an actual painting. You would get the benefit of knowing you contributed to something special though.

I love sea turtles and she does a wonderful job painting them.

Rob, I really posted this for you (not that I expected you to drop the $$$ on the print, but thought the concept would be interesting to you)! I almost sent the link directly to your email, but then figured there are a couple of others on here that like their sea turtles and might enjoy. No idea how many prints will be in the run, it might be on the website somewhere.

Hi Kristy. I am the artist who created "Sea Mates" ......one of my copyrighted original paintings that you have copied to your blog above. I'd really love to give you and any others on your blog list, additional information about this painting and the limited editions I have had reproduced from it. In fact, I'd like to answer your questions more specifically. As you state above when you sent out the image to your friend, you may not have expected "someone to "drop the $$$ on the print", I think you would be absolutely pleased if you saw the image and the reproductions in person. The limited editions on canvas are artist embellished which makes them look just like the original. Please feel free to contact me anytime for any input or questions that you may have about my work. I'd enjoy knowing your thoughts, etc. about this painting as well.

As to the questions you pose above, "Sea Mates" is an original, copyrighted image created by me as the artist to aid in sea turtle conservation. The original painting is an acrylic and is quite large, a 30" x 40" on canvas painting. The frame on the original alone cost well over $500.00. As to the reproductions and their limited edition numbers, I believe they are posted on my website. Although the large print from the original may seem somewhat "pricey", when compared to the pricing of the original, it is quite reasonable. What folks don't always realize is that artists whose original work sells quickly have giclee images reproduced of some of their images due to the large demand for that particular painting. The true museum quality giclee, which is the only way I would reproduce this painting, is the closest thing to the original that you can get. The artist embellished giclee on canvas is absolutely gorgeous, and looks amazingly like the original. Most people cannot tell the difference between the original and the reproduction.

I am continuing to work with Reef Relief and will honor the 25% commission of any sales from leads from this organization. Any sales that I receive from those on your blog above will be donated to Reef Relief. This is an ongoing promotion until all prints are sold. Sadly my promotional partner dropped the ball and the promotion ended almost as soon as it began. However, as the artist, I honor my word and will donate to the organizations who sponsered me as an artist. Please go to my website to see additional information about this painting and other prints which I have available of sea turtles, etc. My website address is: www.gloriaclifford.com You may contact me through this thread or through my contact page on my website.

Thank you so much for your kind comments about my work and for your interest in my paintings. I hope to hear from you soon.

    Gloria Clifford
