    that is exactly how i open them. after unscrewing the cap, carefully drive a flat head screw driver through the metal seal and then pop it out of the top ring.

    I have another question on the torch polishing:

    I didn't want to spend too much for just one project so I just bought a small butane torch.

    3 things happen:
    - the edge does get that polished look (good)
    - sometimes the acrylic catches on fire (bad?)
    - the edges seem to 'roll' (bad?)

    any tips?

    you are probably moving too slowly. the rounding (rolling?) is something that happens if you get it really hot.
