Thread: truck mod chips

    Default truck mod chips

Ok, so my wife got a 2010 f150 V8 crew cab, but as we know is not the best at gas savings, so i heard that modding the comp. will give you better GPM and all the other stuff, she only drives in town so no 4x4 or racing

I been looking to get the "chip" aka modifying computer, but spending that kind of money for a set up, then it goes to the shelf, seems kind of ridiculous, so the question goes, does any body has one or know a friend/mech. shop that would just charge me to set it up.

    thanks

    1) If the truck could get better gas mileage without impacting engine life, the manufacturer would have done that already.

    2) It is likely to void your warranty.

    Cool

    Jose,

Come by one of my shops we sell a full line of truck accessories and chips/programers.

Or take a look at Superchips.com or edgeperformance.com they both offer programers for you F-150.

they have chips that do something with your 02 sensor to get better gas. i think it puts more power to it. you can find them pretty cheap. but i wouldnt buy a cheap one.

Electric fan mod...I remember doing that onmy rx7, lol. Shipping a motor won't always void the warranty, but depending on the dealership(personal experience), be ready for a fight of fault. A lot if theae aftermarket chips are also removable w/o detection and simply plug and play if programmed from manufacturer. I'm looking into a chip for my tundra where it'll be programmed for volant intake and exhaust from the maker.

Most don't use chips any more. It's all done with hand held scanners than plug into your OBD2 port. The scanner will remove the factory "tune" then replace it with the "improved" tune from the aftermarket company (diablo sport, bullydog, superchips, etc.). They are also good if you plan on making other changes to the vehicle like changing tire sizes and tranny shift points. If going to the dealer for service you can can plug the scanner remove the aftermarket tune and reinstall the factory tune and they are none to the wiser. I know there are some out there that will take your factory ECU and reflash it if you are looking for a more of a custom tune. I know they do it a lot for GM series of LS engines. As for me, I have an 03 Chevy with the 5.3 V8 and I am still undecided. I am looking at the Bully Dog Triple Dog Gauge Tuner for it. It's vehicle engine tuner, monitor, gauge and diagnostic device all in a single unit.

Hey Bill, yeah, If the manufacturer gave us the best, it wouldnt be room for improvement.
    electric fan mod eh??..hmmmm
I thank all for the responses......so nobody knows of a friend or mech. whom will just charge me to mod. the truck, so I dont have to buy the trinket?

oh yeah and taking your truck/car to the dealer for service its a rip off, even worse if you own a Harley, and yes I can understand the arguments, still its a rip off.
