Roaches are thigmotrophic, they like to be pressed in between things. They will always hide. You can look for fecal focal points to identify where they are. The focal points are usually in corners. Once you have located the general area they are in, treat with a pesticide that has a straw on it so you can spray small amounts into crevices in the area. Once they come running out, suck them up with a vacuum. Most exterminators will use bait, the bait will keep the roaches in their juvenile state, keeping them from reproducing, but they will have oddities like twisted wings, and will come out more during the day. If you can get some bait, put it by the fecal focal points.

if you bomb your house seal the tank and sump openings with packing tape and garbage bags.

We've always had good luck with Roach Prufe. It's boric acid and pretty close to harmless. We have the ONLY boat in Corpus Christi without roaches, and I'm convinced that's why.

I agree with Bill, I use boric acid all over my home. I dump it in all wall openings (light switches, elec outlets) under all the drawers in the kitchen, and behind everything. It is inert, does not hurt the kids, pets, or me. When I do any renovation or rebuilding and open a wall I pour it in, everywhere. Don't use an exterminator, live in a house built in th 60s and no roach problem.
