I got a lot of wonderful material things like acrylic work and brittle stars from Jack, corals from Sherry, etc. but I have to say the best gift has been the offers for loaning me stuff in emergency situations and the great info that has so greatly enriched my reefkeeping like the idea for a shadowbox that originated with Ace and Alton. I just love it.

Best ever....? I think ours would be kind of a tie.

Troy Valentine spent about 2 hours entertaining us and teaching us how to drip kalk to raise our perpetually low pH when we were newbies then threw in a low tech kalk drip system, some cap and xenia all for free. Very generous and patient and just significantly increased our knowledge that day. Great stand-up guy!

Blueboy (Abe) a million years ago had some stuff for sale when he was breaking down his tank and we were super embarrassingly green newbies. (I remember him asking us what kind of lights we had and I answered, "ummm...the expensive ones?" referring to the PC lights we had bought for our 100g!) I sent him some follow up thank you and wished I had bought a couple more things when I got home and saw how great the corals were doing. He ended up selling us the entire remaining contents of his coral for $100 and there was some GREAT stuff in there, tons of blastos of two different colors a beatiful neon green hydnopora, some gorgeous zoas and on and on with all the extras he threw in there. It was a purchase but it was definitely a gift because he just gave the other stuff away to be done with it.

Mike just reminded me of some super nice gifts we have gotten from Kevin kkiel02, including Mike's favorite huge elephant ear mushroom in the FOWLR and a new wet side for our Vortech. Amazingly generous sweet guy... sorry I forgot you in the original post, Kevin!

Yeah it's sort of scary to even reply to this thread because for sure there's somebody that doesn't get mentioned but has been super kind -like Troy Valentine

Sherry- If you dont know this chick your missing out on a good friend. Period!!!!!!!..................SherryK everyone give her a hand.
Jeremy- not only employed me but was a great friend.
Ace- brilliant ideas, he just doesnt know.
Felipe- whats there to say hes Felipe.
Rob- stored my corals when I didnt have a tank + I gave him a RTD and took care of it.
Steve D- kept this alive for me when I didnt really care.

the best thing i have been given is not something tangible. support and friendship. whether it is coming over to help move a tank, loaning extra filtration to help get thru AEFW treatment, or bringing water in when an emergency arises, etc. - these are the gifts that make this group of fish nerds a family.

of course all of the corals, fish, macroalgae, liverock, dry goods and sand given to me for my classroom and home tank by countless members here were nice too

Yeah, to echo Ace there isn't a lot of folks that I've not met that haven't been extremely helpful and willing to share that knowledge. This is by far the most entertaining (at times) and friendly hobby that I've ever had the fortune to be a part of. There are quite literally thousands of other hobbies that would snub the newby, but not here, not this community.

So who to mention... dang it, probably all of them. From Ace to Kevin, from Troy (really, how can you go wrong with a name like Troy Valantine... it's almost like he's a movie actor... or made man) to Todd (an avid hunter which earns him exceptionally high marks), and then you have the Deans who are always at every event whether it's to assist with a MAAST function or at some dude's house where a tank needs to be moved... Not to mention Mike's notorious anger, man that boy has lit up the BOD a time or two. Steve and his two boys, Firewater, and Ace helping with an enormous tank move to the two hour discussion late at night by Pete the Ping concerning Kalkwasser dosing methods and other things fugy.

But if I had to pick the one person who rises above the rest, the one person whose generosity is akin to a charity organization, the one person (er, in this case a duo) who will always think it's Christmas.... is the Z28PWRs. Mizeny will not let you leave without a little grab bag of coral-ness. I've been over there to buy a single coral, leave with several and still have my money in my pocket! I think the first time I met them (her other half is Jose) I bought six heads of teal trumpets, but left with two additional corals. Which brought my inventory up from one, to four.

So, the best is the entire community. I think it's primarily because when each of you open your homes to a visit from me (a newby) you present your tank and what works for you. Through this process you lend to the community the useful knowledge that makes this such an awesome forum.

And often the best advice is given by letting others know what you've done wrong in the past rather than all of the things that are going well.

As some of you have already realized, I'm not on my phone this morning.
