New Acro questions

I got two staghorn acro frags today!

While I was acclimating them one got touched by a lobo and that area is dying. :(
It's on top and could be easily removed.
What will stress it less: breaking that injured area off or leaving it on?

Also I ordered two BROWN acros to fit with my Caribbean tank.
I got one beautiful, perfect brown one and one green with purple one.
Assuming that I can keep them alive in the first place will it be possible to turn the green/purple one brown (heavy feeding, etc.) or are some just resistant to changing into brown?

A green/purple wouldn't fit in very well.

nope just cut off at flesh or leave it alone unless it spreads. it will actually promote growth on that spot, if you cut it

Higher zooxanthellae percentages lead to browner coloration. Higher light, more zoox. More nutrients higher zoox. Lower end of the spectrum with more yellow in your lighting, higher zoox. You could maybe add a spotlight with a low kelvin bulb to try to promote brown corals.

should be easy then! Thanks. I have a 3000k GE I've been itching to try in the main tank (I am using it in the shadowbox to turn that bright blue acrylic into greenish Caribbean blue/teal) Really the gorgos are probably going to kill them off in no time anway but I'll give it a shot.

well boo :(
I was feeling so encouraged by my brown acro always looking happy with polyps extended but I guess it's going to croak soon.
Was keeping a close ye on it and if I look closely I can start to see some white areas on the very tips.
So I guess that's the beginning of it bleaching and dying?
Anything I can still do now?

Is it in too direct of flow? You could dip the affected area's with seachem reef dip to help.

Where at in the tank? Could be too much light right off the bat.
Especially if it is right under the new 3000K bulb you wanted to try.
