San Antonio Bans Texting while driving

I do not text while driving but I know and have seen plenty that do. I am happy to see this law, about time.

I agree. My son was rear-ended by a guy who was texting and operating a second phone. Our car was totaled. It pushed the back bumper under the back wheels. The good Lord was watching and kept him safe from injury...I think it should be all phone use while driving...or at least hands-free...

Perfect examply of why not to, my neighbors 21yr old daughter.

Last halloween sometime in the AM she was coming down our street texting, dropped her ph and bent over to get it jumped the curb. Hit a neighbors car while driving on the side walk. Can you imagine what would have happened if she was on a city street or highway.

Sounds good on the surface but how many people have dark tinted windows and or good at hiding it. As we continue to add more electronic gadgets to our car we continue to add to the distraction of driving. And please do not tell me hands free devices are safer because "It is the conversation and the thought that has you distracted", not the fact of using one hand to drive. I think all cell phones should have a one minute limit, call someone ask your question and get your answer in less than one minute and then you have to wait five to make another. And please do not ask me about the person in HEB that is on the cell phone the whole time while they are in the store. Cell phones are a bad subject, I still have to listen to an air leak because someone ran into the back of my truck because he dropped his cell phone on the floor board and in picking it up he did not see my truck until it was too late.

Agree 100%, but this is coming from me. A guy who still owns a NES and Super NES. Does not have any new gaming system. Rarely talk on my cell and my truck doesnt even have power locks or windows. All in all im not a tech/electronic geek, but I do like my Ipod.

I sometimes think of a scenario where all the earths satellites are destroyed and we all have to live with out what society is driven by now...

ALL IN ALL ELECTRONICS ARE A DISTRACTION, Cell Phns, Games, TV, Computers we would all benefit from a little less... Unfrotunately I sit in front of a comp all day and I do hate it.

I agree with the law but also remember that if you are messing with your phone at all they will assume you are texting and you will get stopped. Of course you will be able to prove you were not texting with the log but its still a PITA to have to go to court to fight it. I live in UC and they passed this law months ago and its not a problem. It's only against the law if you are driving while texting and not illegal if texting while stopped at the light.

why was there a car on the sidewalk if it wasnt on the sidewalk then it wouldnt have gotten hit

I wanna see that EVERY cop will inforce this.
Too many times while on the road i see people talking OR texting and half the time, it's in a SCHOOL zone which from my understanding every school zone has a ban on driver & passneger of talking OR texting.
I wish people would realized that you dont have to HOLD your phone, put it on SPEAKER and put in on your lap or dash, you can hear the person and they can hear you!
excuse the BOLD CAPs but 2 weeks ago, my mother & i were hit from behind cause some "mother" was texting on her phone, she hit us so hard, we came off the ground and hit the van infront of us so while the cops were talking to people from all 3 cars, the causer leaves her 2 kids in the SUV, in the heat, windows up, for an HOUR! a 4 year old and a 2 year old!
She took a FULL week to tell her insurance and then her insurance company is in Austin!
Her excuse for causing the accident "the right turn lane was moving"

Come on people, we have enough problems in our lives, spare us the accidents cause you're talking and/or texting while you drive.
Dont kill somebody cause you cant ignore your phone till you get to where you need to be.
