chloramine!

just read some more in my new algae book and learned that over 30% of municipalities use chloramine now. And it's way tougher to filter out than chlorine and because of the ammonia not good for our fish tanks at all.
I also learned that each water supplier that supplies for more than 25 houses must publish an annual water quality report and that will show what kind of disinfectant they use.
I just looked mine up here:

in my area they still use chlorine.
Good thing because I never got a chloramine cartridge for my RO unit.

So anyway: check your water quality report.

Russ posted awile back that there is no Chloramine in SA water. It may be under their sponsor forum. Let me look....

Where I ran into a problem years back was the rural water company was dumping 4PPM of chlorine in my drinking water to over compensate for the long distance they had to pump water. Most R/O filters only remove 2PPM

Oh wow.
That's what I thought was so cool about the online water reports. They show what kind of disinfectant they're using and what amounts are left in the kind you are getting in your area, etc.
I think it's nice those reports are available online.

Yeah, if SAWS goes to chloramine, we'll all have to change our RO process.

Okay this is not chloramine related but water source stuff. We're with Aqua Texas and I found my report (see link above) so I know we don't have chloramine but what is the blue dye they put in water and why do they put it in there?
Sometimes it's so noticable I stains the sink and tub.
Does that dye stuff get filtered out by regular RODI units?

I know for a fact that Corpus Christi DOES use Chloramine. That's why I ordered a chloramine filter from from Russ @ Buckeye.
