Default who owns a bully breed?

American Bulldog,Staffordshire Bull Terrier,American Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Pitbull Terrier.

I am soo tired of seeing on tv how bad these breeds are. people dont even know the difference between the breed. it looks like a pitbull soo its a pit. alot of people are just ignorant to the fact that its not the breed its the owner. I own a staffordshire bull and an american pitbull terrier. between me and my wife we have owned alot of bully breeds and our dogs would have never attacked anyone. most of the dogs that you see on the news and everywhere else arent even pitbulls they are mutts. just search on youtube for american pitbull terrier and then search for american bully. The american bully is a mutt that is mixed with soo many dogs to get that stature. the american pitbull terrier (the real pitbull) is a slim yet muscular dog. The american bully is not a recognized breed. Backyard breeeders give these dogs a bad name. Its not a pitbulls fault a unsocialized chihuahua is too small to make it over the fence to bite someone and give their breed a bad name.

“If someone raises a dog to be aggressive it will be, no matter what breed it is.” – Dr. Ilana Reisner, director of the behavior clinic at the University of Pennsylvania’s veterinary hospital.

"Most dog attacks are not because of a problem with the breed, but because of a problem with the people that handled them." – Dr. Ilana Reisner, director of the behavior clinic at the University of Pennsylvania’s veterinary hospital.

"Breed bans do not promote responsible dog ownership or actively work to protect the public – It is a smokescreen which falsely gives the impression that action has been taken to prevent dog attacks, when in reality little is being achieved." – EndangeredDogs.com (UK)

"Bad owners create dogs that are unpredictable. These dogs are not properly socialized to people, children and other animals. They are not properly trained, and they’re owned by irresponsible, ignorant people that refuse to take responsibility for their dog’s training. Because of them, Pitbulls have gone from being the all-American breed, prized for their loyalty and intelligence, to the most feared and misunderstood breed ever known." - Carroll Bou, National Ledger

"Laws which ban all dogs of a certain appearance based solely on appearance and not behavior - are a reality, a reality pit bull owners live with everyday. Imagine for a moment having a dear friend you know to be the paragon of loyalty, sweetness, patience, and good humor, constantly portrayed as "evil", unpredictable and savage, and you will begin to understand the frustration." – Diane Jessup, www.workingpitbull.com

I think my dog is half pit. He's a shelter dog so who knows, but he looks like a catahoula/pit cross. He's a great dog, very friendly and does well with other dogs. I hate the bad rap bully breeds have.

1st off you have a bullie.

I currently do not have a bully breed, but I was raised as a kid with them. My father as of now has a huge American Staffordshire (NOT A PITBULL, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE) he has a intimadating look but is a big softy.

None of us kids were ever bitten, it was the exact opposite we were loved by our bullies and protected.

People do not realize that Pitbulls, American Staffordshires and American Bulldogs are different dogs. They are not the same breed! Drives me crazy.

My wife and I fostered a Cain Corso Mastiff aka Italian Mastiff when living in Kansas City and we loved that dog, great with people and other pets.

If and when I find a reputable breeder here in Texas I plan on buying a Minature English Bull terrier, these small dogs pack a punch of energy and are great companions.

What it comes down to with any dog, no matter the breed. Owners mold the dog into what it becomes. I have seen poodles, pomeranians, dachsunds with nastier attitudes than bullies. Its the publics poor perception of the bad media that has given Pitbulls in general their fate.

You know in some town and cities here in the US it is Illegal to own a Pitbull or American Staffordshire. I think many more places will follow. Unfortunate and Sad.

I am happy to see Nat Geo and animal planet have so many shows now shining a positve light on these bullies now; maybe these shows help (scared) people look at them in a positve light.

FWIW: pitbull is not a breed. it is a term for dog's that are pitted against each other in dog fights. Staffies were a new name put on American Pitbull Terriers so that kennels didn't have to unclude the stigma of "Pitbull". Since then, yes there are breed description differences. But yeah, American bulldog's can be pitbulls too

This is Ziggy. We've had him for about 4 years now. I've heard him called a pit bull and a Staffordshire terrier. There seems to be a lot of confusion about how this breed is classified. Either way he is a great dog and has never shown any sign of aggression towards my son. Before the baby came home I did all my research and prepared the dog for a new family member. I can't say they are best friends, but they do have a mutual understanding. The dog lets the baby climb all over him and in exchange the baby tosses his food onto the floor.
