    Default light aclimation

so I finally got a new bulb for my tank, running exact same bulb as before. my question is would it be better to raise the light up higher or run it for a shorter amount of time. it's a 250w de light

I would raise the light. If you run for a shorter period the light will still be more intense with the new bulb. Yes it would be a shorter time but it would be long enough to stress the corals.

I use a screen that I made out of a fish net. I place the handle in my overflows and the net (which I ziptied) is bent over the surface of the water. I use it for about a week while the corals acclimate to the new bulbs.

The only time I ever adjusted anything (height/photo period) on a bulb changeout was when I went from 175W to 250W. Never had any problems when swapping out an old 250 watt for a new 250.

I don't change the high or shade my light when I change bulb. Never have any problem.

Ditto. Just watch them for any stress, but you probably won't see any.

Killed my first coral in 1991, have tried to do better since. Always tricky.
