EEL question:

Is it bad for an eel to overfeed in one feeding? I had just fed my ghost ribbon eel a frozen silverside (he will only eat frozen food...nothing live), then I go to feed my snowflake eel one as well (he likes anything and everything).

The snowflake eel dropped its fish it was trying to eat and the ghost eel decided it would have seconds. Take for granted that these where whole silversides. Should I be worried he took in 2 fish at once?

Also, how often should I be feeding the ghost eel? The snowflake will graze on leftovers, so I'm not worried about him. I never have a problem feeding the ghost eel, but right now its about 3 times a week.

Any help would be appreciated!

I would skip a feeding. Is your ribbon eel acting lathargic or odd in any way? I think its probably fine but if your worried about it just skip its next feeding.

I have a yellowhead Moray that would eat everyday if I let him. I try to feed him 2 time a week. Ive noticed with my eel he becomes more aggressive with the fish in the tank when I do not feed often. Yellowheads are more aggressive than some species though so thats something you should not have to worry about.

A lot of times if they eat to much, and this can go for fish too, they will simply throw the food back up. But like the others said above, watch for him being lathargic or acting odd in any way. If his behavior has not changed significanly then he should be fine. Also your feeding schedule of 3 times a week should be sufficient, but if he does start to get aggressive towards your other fish you may want to throw in a snack here and there to keep him happy.

Thanks for everyones quick response. He is acting normal as of now I'll keep an eye on him. I'm just new to eels and want to do it right. I just got lucky the ribbon eel loves to eat bc I know they can be quite difficult. He leaves all the other fish alone in the tank, including the snowflake eel he could easily swallow. My saddle puffer will swim with him when he comes out of the rockwork. They are a match made in heaven bits weird how they'll hang around one another
