Sargassum

I'm not gonna be able to make the collection trip next week but do want to go to Port A in the fall some time and do some collecting. Is Sargassum reef safe? Has anyone kept it in their tank? Before I had a tank, I remember finding all kinds of life in it.

Sargassum??? I would say not a good idea. Plus, lots of unwanted types crab fry hide in sargassum. Thats just asking for a nightmare to get them out after the mature.

Any other reason why it wouldn't be a good idea? I should be able to easily get off unwanted hitch hikers with a fresh water dip or super salty dip. I'm just wondering if it'll actually grow.

Is there any other cool marco that you can collect? I have friends that fish in the mangrove estuaries. I was thinking of trying to bring back a few small black mangroves. Anyone ever done this?

The Black Mangrove (Aviccenia germinans) can be found coastally as a partial immerse or fully terrestrial resident. Although they are more tolerant of pruning (and cooler temperatures) than the Red Mangrove, their preference for decidedly less saline waters and a significant soil/mud component to their substrate makes them less attractive to marine aquarists.

Hmm, I know I've seen them for sell. Also, I thought the areas they grew in at the coast were not brackish but just as salty as the beach. Well though goes that idea I guess. :(
