Won't let me embed the video so here is the link. Seems to me the only ones who are going to "pay" for this are the ones who live around the coast.

It's horrid. I didn't realize that stuff like this has happened before like in Mexico (about the same size spill) and Iraq in the early nineties.
Karin
It passed the Mexico spill. It says they will be fined per gallon, no wonder they don't want people flying around the spill taking pictures.

It just seems as though they are taking one problem and making another much worse by burning the oil and destroying the atmosphere as well.
Sounds like one for a book...

"Where are you based out of sir?" asked the young Soldier fidgeting near the bow of the craft skimming silently over the evening calmed waters of the Atlantic.
"Huh," the wind blasted visage of the old colonel crinkled into a myriad of wrinkles, knowing eyes scanning the horizon. "Boy, I'm out at the BP Dam. Been stationed there since I left the academy."
The BP Dam was a thing of legend. It's true name was the Gulf Retention Wall, but everyone referred to it as the BPD. Once hailed as mankind's greatest marvel, constructing it had taken a decade. But finally the pollutants spewed by the earth so far under the calm waters of the gulf had been contained.
The young Soldier's eyes widened as he looked at the colonel and then out to sea... out to his destiny. Once it was a grand wall, a huge dam, now it was a place where they sent Soldiers in an effort to keep the walls safe from harm.
Safe from the creatures lurking just beneath the oil slicked surface of that cauldron of stagnant briney fluid that had once hosted so many benevolent creatures, upon which once white beaches children pranced and played.

Oh yeah, the SciFi folks will love to write about it.

Kristy I love that. It's really funny, and oh so sad at the same time. If you all get the chance watch the movie GasLand. It's about the not so clean Natural Gas. Bush passed what's known aas the Halliburton loophole, which allows them to bypass 25 or so Acts that protect our water and air. The Natural Gas holding tanks around DFW offgas more pollutants than the entire city's automobiles. It's atrocious. Not to mention that they something like 400 chemicals they put into the ground to fracture the ground to get to the gas. Well the main ingredients are such things as Hydrochloric Acids and Benzene(s). People in CO where this all originated ten years ago are getting brain lesions from the overdosing of ozone. all of the chemicals do not biodegrade, which means once it's in the water, it's there for good. Well, when all of our water is gone, how are we going to get more? I know what you're thinking, RO/DI!!! NOPE, the glycol ethers that they use EAT the RO membranes, so yeah you're screwed even if you have one. If that stuff got into the Aquifer, well we would all just have to move, or drain Lake Travis. Applewhite would not be able to sustain us either. It's an absolute shame....
GASLAND IS ON HBO ON DEMAND, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND WATCHING IT SO YOU CAN NOT SLEEP FOR AT LEAST FOUR DAYS WHEN YOU SEE WHAT IS GOING ON.
Oh yeah, right before Bush passed the loophole, Cheney got elected with him. Yep, the old CEO of Halliburton..... I wonder who got rich off that?
