DI????
I use distilled water in my tank anytime I do a water change or top off, but recently I talked to a fellow reef tank enthusiast at a lfs store and was told by him that he used bottle drinking water that all he did was treat it with chemicals...I didnt ask for elaboration at the time, so what I'm asking forum members is what did he mean possibly and have or are members doing this and with what kind of results????

Bottled water is mostly someone elses tap water. Run from this type of advice. Just what we do not want, untested for chemicals in our synthetic seawater systems. I prefer RO/DI water with a TDS of 10 or less.

I have used it before....both Distilled water and bottled drinking water...but only in an emergency and I dosed a water clarifier to take out the chloramines. Ummmmm definitely not worth the unwanted cyano I got from it more times than not. But, didn't kill anything.
That's what I get for not having an RO/DI unit YET!
Definitely try not to do that often. I tote 5 x 5gal buckets to the LFS every week ....ugh.....

Thanks for the responses.. I mix my salt with distilled water the night before when I do my water changes to keep my SG 1.025 and use distilled water for topping off...I have a RO/DI unit which I get one gallon of DI water from for every three gallons....

My RO/DI unit is the best purchase I have ever made! (OK, one of the many "best purchases" I have ever made). I think that a good quality unit with a DTS meter is just invaluable.
