Charles Pasture Pier and the Jetties near it fishing out to the surf side.

Look at the Port Aransa Jetty. I had great luck with shrimp off the pier. As soon as you come off the ferry, there will be a gas station to your right with a road driving behind it. Follow that road to the parking and you'll see the pier. Walk to the end of the pier and fish off the right side of the "t." Cast your line out and to the right. If you cast straigt out, you'll snag the old pier. If you wait until the big ships come through, the suck back from the water will take your line out a decent way. I caught A LOT of Gafftop Catfish and stingray there. If I used mud minnows or squid I would typically only catch hardheads/croakers. Off the jetties, I caught red drum. Regardless where I went, I used rattletraps. Some folks I know didn't think they would work on salt fish, but it was great. I used a double leader with a rattle on top lightly baited and regular eagle hook on the bottom with bait. I see a log of folks running their weights at the end of their line. I do the opposite. I have my leader at the end, then a decent weight approximately 12-16" above so I have a longer line to play in the current. That's just me. It may be the wrong setup in some eyes, or correct, but it works for me. Whatever you do, use FRESH fish. Place your bait on top of the ice, not under. Don't let it sit out in the sun and bake, keep it cool. Take a variety of bait, the fish too may be tired of the same buffet.
