Default Looking for multi media expert?

We develop future concepts and part of that is developing a 'picture' of proposed concepts.

Currently I labor through autodice, a type of a CAD software specific to power generation and power load balancing. The software only produces a 2D image of the proposed layout of a hospital. I recently went to school to learn MicroStation. Wow, much harder, but the results are awesome... in 2D as I've not picked up the 3D aspect nor any of the textures and stuff to make it marketable to any laymen. They're usually wire diagrams of our hospital footprint.

Anyway, I'm trying to do one of two things. I've got to be able to depict a three dimensional presentation of a tent styled hospital. I recognize that even becoming an expert in MS I would still labor many, many, hours in developing these images.

On point, my boss agrees with me. He's kind of asked that I write up a job description that will get someone in the door that can focus on rendering images on demand to visually represent our concepts.

I really have little idea of how to word something like that other than "Make pictures at different angles that look like what I think of"...

Need help, any of you out there capable of something like this? Note that I am NOT offering a job, and that being said once, and IF, the job gets advertised you can apply for it although I would NOT have any input on the actual hiring action... nor would it be a two week turn around to job announcement. Nothing around here moves with any great sense of urgency.

Any assistance in the effort to find a solution would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and any experts on microstation out there that may be interested it would behoove you to you pm me directly as that would be huge feather in your favor.

You either need a graphic design artist that would deliver 2d illustrations or a 3D modeler that would deliver 3D illustrations. One of the benefits of bringing in a 3D modeler is that you could also have interactive presentation pieces, but of course you will pay more for the 3D modeler.

After reading your post again....you need a 3D Modeler.

Titles of 3D modelers that should have the skill sets you are looking for:

    3D Concept Artist
    3D Modeler
Digital Artist (most have a 3D background)
Creative Director (these guys often have 3D skills)
Game Designer (most game designers I know have a heavy background in 3D modeling and presentations)

The best 3D modelers I have seen use 3D Studio Max. There are more programs out there. Just know that a 3D modeler will be proficient with one main 3D application. So you should either be prepared to purchase what they use or determine what you have or are capable of buying first.

My brother-in-law, Ethan McKinnon has been a 3D modeler for well over 10 years. He has developed his own games and has been recognized for his work in many publications. Here’s his portfolio: http://ethan-mckinnon.blackskullstudios.com/ He's currently looking for work. Check out his portfolio…he has some nice stuff. We worked together back in the day for Northrop Grumman. We installed Air Traffic Control simulators for 97 Air Force bases around the world which included the 3D models and graphics for simulators.

Hope some of this info helps you little guy.

I've used google sketch... but wow, I'm severly limited by my inexpereince at MS.

Rob, Ethan is your cuñado? I've heard of him a little while ago on tv. Hey, you could have told me that I would be waking him up if I called before noon. I spoke to him and we agreed that I would send him an email with my contact information along with a brief description of what I'm looking for. You reckon he'd be willing to work freelance? His stuff is good.

LOL! You woke him up....awesome! He's one of those guys that works at all hours.

Freelance is always welcomed, I think, for most any designer/developer...it is for me anyways as I'm sure it is for Erik as well. Hi Erik! lol.

I think the difference is; you get "more" from us (designers and developers) when you hire us...LOL!

Ethan is top of the line, doesn't get much better than his work. Seriously. Glad you guys spoke.

Well, I hope it works out as well. I've asked the magic question conerning cost and whether it would be under that "magic'" number...

I've shown his portfolio to a few people here in the know and it's what we're looking for. The ability to inform the laymen what our actual concept looks like in reality.

Oh yeah I love freelance. I get a 60 dollar gig every couple of weeks just checking serial numbers. It's nice to just go and really get paid for nothing.
