Default Padre Island National Seashore Sea Turtle Release

Just wanted to let everyone know about this. We did this last year and we loved it! You can go down and watch them release sea turtle hatchlings. The last clutch is scheduled to be released during the collection trip, so this might be something some people want to check out . You can get more information here: http://www.nps.gov/pais/naturescience/releases.htm

Please note all of the rules and you should call the hotline the morning of to make sure they are releasing that day.

Yea, they are actually looking for nests and turtle tracks. If you see any turtles, you can call a hotline and those guys come and check it out.

Hope all goes well with their release and their survival with the large oil leak going on....

I thought the same thing about the oil leak. I was actually surprised they were still releasing them, but the release and its timing are integral parts of keeping the turtles coming back to the same place to nest when they are mature.
