heat retardant material to handle Halide and a few other things

Hi everyone, I'm moving down here next month and have been setting up a 120 drilled tank here to have for my livestock when I mail them down. I bought it from Adam, but I found out that the halides have been burning through the top of the cabinet and the PVC intake pipe. Does anyone know of a heat resistant material or reflector I can use to help prevent this? Lowes had no idea. I thought the material from welding gloves might work, but I thought I would ask if anyone experienced this before.

Also, He had hooked his actinic and full spectrum lights to an 8 wire connector. However, he didn't have the male connector that went to the plug to plug these into the wall. Should I rewire them or try to find another 8 wire connector. Again, Lowes didn't have one that big.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Unfortunately, I am only in town for 2 more days and will be back in a month. Thanks

Welcome to MAAST and SA. I have regular MH Reflectors and keep them off the canopy with a couple of washers which creates an air space and have never had any problems. The only question is how many fans do you have in this canopy to keep things cool?
Is your ballast a Ice Capp Ballast? If so you will need to purchase another one from them. Just remember the 440 and the 660 are wired different so you cannot use the same harness. If it is not Ice Cap then maybe there is some type of number or Nema configuration number listed on it?

Since this was a custom build from Adam, it looks like there weren't any fans. I will be sure to add them when I start using the halides. It looks like the build just had openings in the canopy cut into them. Any suggestions on fans?
I'm going to get reflectors from JT. I will set them up with your suggestions. I will look up the number on the ballasts when I get home. Thank you.

I use two 4". One is a Coral Vue with a temp probe and the other is a cheap coral life 4". If you do not mind 120v radio shack has 120v 4" fans. I use a hole saw and large arbor to drill the holes

Lowes and HD have angle iron aluminum you could use as a spacer. You can cut the lengths to size using a hacksaw. I don't have a canopy, but I can tell you that both my 250W pendants rest directly on the aluminum. I can touch the brackets within a few inches of the lights and it's relatively cool or slightly warm at the most.

Alltex or Radioshack may be a good source for the 8 pin connector. May want to google them for the nearest one.
