    Default Identification please?

I got a pair of clowns yesterday and both looked healthy and were eating like little pigs. This morning when the lights came on only one came out of the anemone, the other was hiding in a cave and never came out. When I fed the tank he came out but never ate anything, and I noticed a fuzz ball on his side. Two hours later he passed away. Is this ich or something else? Are all of my fish going to die this quick what should I do?

definitely not ich imo its much too large and doubtful that 1 parasite was on him and killed him, most likely a fungal infection. What are the parameters of the tank? how new/old? any other occupants? the weird thing is how localized the "fuzzball" is..

How long has your tank been up?

I feed a lot when ich shows up, but I don't think I've ever had anything that prominent. How about the other fish? Do they show signs?

To keep the fish eating you can trigger the response with garlic. A eating fish tends to be a healthy fish, and an eating fish tends to stress less than one that's constantly worried about where its next meal will come by.

My tank has been set up for 5 months now, it has a firefish and two watchmen gobys and the other surviving clownfish. All four are showing no signs and are eating. My parameters are ammonia-0, nitrite-0, nitrate-5. The nitrates are at 5 because I recently rearranged the rock work.

    Sorry for your loss!

So...do you think this 'fuzz ball' was on him when you got him and you just didn't notice or something that developed visually while in your tank? Usually a fungus or something similar would show signs well before being fatal. You have the issue of bacteria, especially vibrio, that can cause sores or flesh eating like issues. I have seen vibrio take stuff out fast if you aren't quick to the signs of it.

As too whether the rest of your tank is now vunerable....well...yes. But doesn't mean they will get it. Since we don't know what it really is....you really can't do anything but watch them and ensure everyone is eating and acting normally.

Make sure you water params are in check, you have good food and good environment.

You have a lid on your tank, right? Firefish are known for jumping out of tanks.

It doesnt sound like Brookynella(from the fuzz ball description) but from the quick turn in health I would research it some. Pick up some formalin just in case as it comes in handy along with copper that cures a ton of diseases. Just dont mix them. Just an something to look out for. Im hoping it was an infection or something along those lines so it wont spread to the other fish.

Another fairly quick killer is Marine Velvet. Again it doesnt really sound like it from what you descibed though.

Edit- Didnt see the picture at first I doubt its either of those from the picture. Its still a good idea to have copper and formalin handy though.
