    Default HELP WITH BALLAST...

OKEY I HAVE A ICE CAP MODEL 660-009 ELECTRONIC LAMP DRIVER, ANDIS ABOUT 1 YEAR OLD... MY SETUP COMES WITH 2 BALLASTS AND 8 LAMPS (EACH BALLAST REGULATES 4 BULBS), AND WHAT STARTED TO HAPPEN IS ONE OF THE BALLAST IS NOT TURNING ON THE LIGHTS.... THE OTHER BALLAST IS WORKING JUST FINE...

PROBLEM... WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE SUPPOSE TO TURN ON, ONLY 2 OF THE 4 TURN ON FOR A SPLIT SECOND AND THEN TURN BACK OFF... I SWITCHED THE WIRES CONNECTION WITH THE GOOD ONE THINKING MAYBE FAULTY WIRING, BUT THEN ONE THAT IS DONE THE BULBS TURN ON, SO ITS NOT THE WIRING, AND BULBS ARE NEW I JUST REPLACED THEM...

THEN I SWITCHED THE FUSE ON THE FAULTY BALLAST AND STILL IT DOESN'T TURN ON.....??

** IS IT THE OBVIOUS THAT MAYBE MY BALLAST HAS GIVEN UP AND I NEED A NEW ONE??? **

    ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED...

I'd still double check the bulbs. I've had 2 day old bulbs go bad and then the whole circuit goes out, like yours. Just switch the harness connections or swap the 4 bulbs from the working ballast to the non-working one. If it does the same thing, then you may want to contact ice cap's warranty. They usually have pretty good customer support.

Ice cap is great with customer service. Their waaranty is 3 yrs stamped on the ballast. Go to Reef Gentral they have an Icecap orum and answer lots of questions there. Also please urn off the caps. It hurts these old eyes.

Why don't you check line and load voltage with a volt meter? Or have you done that already? That will tell you if the ballast or anything is good or not. If you are doing any kind of electrical work it's a must have IMO.

I would also check the bulbs, sounds to me like the circuit isnt being completed the way it should so the ballast is shutting itself off.... my Hagen Glo ballasts do the same thing if i take a endcap off of a bulb, or put a bad bulb in its place

    1) Here's the wiring diagram: http://www.icecapinc.com/downloads/660wiringdiagram.pdf

    2) Do a continuity check from your harness where it plugs into the ballast: http://www.icecapinc.com/downloads/cont_test.pdf

I'm going thru the same thing with my VHOs. Just haven't had the time to completely troubleshoot.

BTW, you can't test voltage - the Icecap will shut down immediately if it fails to light. Also, you must recycle the ballast when making changes - because it shuts down immediately.

And yes, their support is outstanding.
