Using corregated hose

Spa flex and unions costs a little more, but are wonderfully convenient. I personally HATE barb connections. When I rebuilt my closed loop last fall, I did everything with spa flex and unions, and I've been super-happy with it. Everything comes apart and goes back together very easily when it's maintenance time.

not sure what all of these tubes are called but here's some pics of mine. Nothing is glued and everything can be removed pretty easily if needed. I used black foam sheets on the clear stuff to keep alagae from growing.

I have never had any problems using this stuff.

now that is a great idea derry. it is a pain to deal with the hosebarbs and clamps, with spaflex glued to unions, you would get the best of both worlds, flexible and easy/solid connection points.

^I like that idea...if you have to glue then that's the way to do it. I never had to glue anything though.

This is what I did with our 240gal. Actually we have Spa Flex w/unions for the drain and tubing for the return. We have a Dart pump and had to go from 1" to 3/4" and found tubing the best solution.

Well, I picked up a reeflo hammerhead pump from secretweapons22 and plan on using that for practically everything. At 5800 gph at 1 foot, with 2-2 inch bulkheads to drain from the tank, I just needed to see if there were any other possibilities then hard plumbing that would hold up. Obviously gluing the hose to the fittings would be required. Home depot has some blue flex hose (1.5") that looks like its spa fle(pool vacuume hose)
