I'm a fan of the Hydor Theo line -- very reliable, and one of the only manufacturers who is including a water-level-detection circuit, to auto-shut off the heater if it drops below a certain level. They're also nicely affordable -- Gabe sells the whole line for under $30

The Visitherm Stealth line is also good -- as is anything by Ebo-Jager (or are they just Jager now?).. to me, the keys are submersible and as close to shock or break resistant as possible... Many of the chiller units have heating and cooling elements built in as well.

I've been using the Ebo Jaeger heaters for years and am very fond of them. Never had any problems with them.

I have a couple questions/concerns. I plan on getting 2 Jager 100 W heaters for a 20L (one for each side of the tank). Too much? Also I am planning to mod an AC70. Would anyone recommend a heater that fits in there to avoid putting two heaters in my DT? Thanks

I have two stealth heaters and not happy with either. I'm sold on the Rena heater. It's not a fancy named brand, but its Very accurate, has a led to tell you when its on, and the led flashes if your tank gets too hot. Plus shatter proof.

I dont know anything about heater brands, but I am of the philosophy of several smaller heaters over one or two high wattage heaters.

I believe most heaters fail in the on position.
