If it's not slimy or hairy it could be green coraline algae. My rock was covered in it at first, but the purple stuff is taking over. Too bad, I liked the look of both on the same rock. It's not harmful, if it's coraline. Got a pic?

I have it too....got it recently when I added my baby clowns and started feeding 2-3 times per day....it's neon green slime algae.....and it's growing on my substrate where the flow is low and light is direct.

I cut back my lighting by an hour on MH and an hour on Actinic to help combat it. I also decreased the quantity for each feeding. That seemed to help a little.

You have to correct the problem first to get rid of it. I noticed last night my rocks are starting to get it too. I mix the tops layer of the sand up to control it in the sand....but plan to cut back on feeding even more to get rid of this stuff.

Are you doing heavy feeding? What's your water parameters? Lighting schedule?
