If you look closely...they are both in the cage with the rocks they were attached to. The small maxima is actually attached to a piece of clam shell and the crocea is attached to a flat pice of liverock with watermeloon zoas on it. I had both in the sand in the exact same spot they are in the cage.

I have heard of people cutting the base....but I personally would not be brave enough to try that approach....if I had to remove one from a rock...which I never have....then i would most likely just gently twist/rock it back and forth until it let loose. I think gentle is the keyword here as to not force it...but encourage it. It seems simpler to me to try and keep your clams on smaller rocks or maybe even removing the large rock it's attached to and chisel it out.
