From what I've been reading, the $200 200m lens is highly recommended. The $900 model was reviewed on one sight as the "fat prima donna" that didn't live up to it's price when compared to the $200 version.
I owna Nikon D60 and I have the 18-55mm lens and the 55-200mm lens and I love them both. I have a camera bag so its not that big a deal carrying both lenses. And changing them out is super easy. As far as long shots go with the 200mm lens I have no issues with shaky pics. I use the VR feature and if the subjest is stationary such as a coral or person I use a tripod and wireless remote. I have gotten some awesome shots at the 200mm focal range of planes flying and you can get great detail. One thing that great about DSLRs with High resolution is you can get as close as you can with the wide ange lens (18-55mm) and get a great shot and then on your computer zoom in to 100% and crop your subject. Thats what I do and I have a 10MP camera and I get great detail with it. A true micro lens will allow you to get the hairs on a fly or extreme detail or a coral. I wish I had the money to spend on a true Micro lens. One day I will im sure. I love getting shooting the world of tiny!
