Spiny Oyster
I really love my spiny oyster. It's doing so well.
I am having a hard time finding the same amount of info on it that I found on clams though.
I know maxima and crocea prefer to be on rocks and derasa in the sand. where do spiny oysters want to be?
Mine seems happy enough -almost always open and eating.
My Vortechs are moving the sand bed a little and when I rearranged the oyster to adjust for the moved sandbed I noticed some spines/new shell growth on the oysters bottom shell.
Is it trying to grow onto something? Maybe it would like a rock?

well, they grow attached to a rock, but make sure it is in place where it is happy before you attach it to the rock. i put mine on the sand for a long time, and when i was sure it was happy with the location, i glued it to the rock just behind where it was sitting on the sand. you should be able to see the spot on its shell where it was attached to something in the wild.

I do see that spot. Wow. That's a lot of weight on a not so big stem thingy. How far off the ground do you keep yours?
I've never moved it and it seems very happy with that spot (the Vortech pulls water towards it so the oyster gets a nice flow of goodies towards it)
Got to buy more glue...
Thanks!

i dont think it is necessary that you glue it to a rock. they may be like fungia and break free from their original growth spot as they get bigger, i dont know. if you are ok with its position and it seems happy, i would leave it be.
