    Default Seachem Salinity

    gabe,

I bought a bucket of seachem salinity from your store...quick question: Is there typically a sand-looking white residual in the bottom of the aquarium when it is mixed to the correct amount? I have it at 1.024 and there is definitely some sand-like residue on the bottom of the aquarium. Is this normal? I haven't added anything but the salt.

I have tried mixing it in but it definitely doesn't want to dissolve.

    Thanks.

alot of that is minerals and trace elements (not salt) they are definitely harder to dissolve but as the waters mineral saturation allows it to happen it will.

when i mix seachems salinity i crank up the heat to 89 degrees (in the bucket) to allow a greater saturation in the water and i don't get much undissolved solids.

Ok cool, thanks. Live rock gets here tomorrow so I'm just going to mix it into the water before I put the rock in then put the sand around the rock. I'll take your sugestion on mixing it in the future.

Yep, happens with most salt mixes to varying degrees. I use the heated water trick for my mix up as well, usually ready to roll in 5 minutes.

that salt is batch specific and pretty tight on tolerance.

    what is your water source?
new tank with live rock , if so, cured or not?
    has it cycled?
did you buffer..i.e what is the ph?
    lots of factors here.
    doubt it's the salt..................

There is nothing in the aquarium yet but the salt. Live rock arrives on thursday. I bought water from texas tropical and marine, I was under the impression that it is RO/DI, I'm hoping they weren't BSing me! It was 25 cents a gallon.

I'm not at home at the moment, I will test it when I get back and post the results.
