I had both diatom blooms+greenish brown algae issues a while back. and was about ready to quit!!!!
Algae can be a big pain in the bu**
Good bulbs are a big deal, and maybe drop lighting to only 7-8 hours. but after that..... I ran a new phos-pac(remove in 2-3 days), new charcoal, TLC from the Local fish store....and doubled my clean up crew(15 extra hermits and 7-8 more turbo snails.)
slow and methodical, one step/day at a time...... if you do it all at once you can shock your tank into a dif. annoyance or two.
I don't know that I completely agree with that boomer guy. There are other things in that stuff that might work quite well. Lots of people love it.
Personally I think Poly Filters and Seagel is good. HOWEVER: cyano can live in very low nutrient environments so even if you manage to adsorb most of it it may still not get rid of it. Cyano appears to do well in a certain red spectrum light. So if you know your bulbs need replacing why not try that first?
Hey where is corruption anyway?

I can say from personal experience that CPE DOES make a difference. I can tell overnight the difference. Less algae on the glass, clearer water etc. Now I have O3 in there with all of that...My water is SUPERDEDUPER clear.
Seriously, I say this over and over to people. RINSE YOUR FOODS!!!! It makes a HUGE difference. Feed every TWO DAYS, not every ten seconds unless you have items that have to be fed.
Just that alone should help to alleviate much of the issue.

Chemi Pure Elite is a great product. For my cyano what I did
Bought Chemi Clean - Product specifically designed for Cyano. Treated to specifications on box.
Did water change after treating with Chemi Clean and added Chemi Pure Elite.
During the treatment of Chemi Clean- you have to remove all carbon, Chemi Pure and turn off skimmer to let it do its job. After treating I noticed a big iffernce.
Key to it working is following directions.

I had a run in with the red menace and was ready to throw in the towel. I ended up doing a week of lights out, while adding carbon and a phosban reactor. End of the uholy stuff.
