I will be ordering my 12k 250w bulbs here in the next week and was wondering what people did to acclimate. Especially from 20k to 12k. This is my first metal halide change so tips and tricks are welcome and appreciated.

If you are worried, Screens or raising the fixture is the best method. Contrary to popular belief, Shortening the daylight hrs won't prevent burning. It's the intensity, not duration, that is burning your coral.
That's the politically correct answer.
Personally, I switched from an old 14K to 10k without making adjustments and my frogspawn was the only coral to get a few spots.... or maybe it was my eyes that had the spots![]()

Use screen. It's cheaper than replacing corals.

I'm guessing I can pick it up at home depot. What exactly is the screen called?

window screen ??? if you want to be ghetto go side and take off two windows lol
I used a roll of window screen. I used 3 layers for each light. If you can review your ballast and bulb combo on sanjays site, it will help you to determine the jump in par/pur.
Each week I took a layer off.
