We have Samoyeds, and have had them for many years. At one time, we had one of the top winning Sams in the country.
Huskies are not dogs that do well left alone. They get bored, and tear things up. Like Sams, they are sometimes not so good with kids - kids are puppies to them, that need to know their place. Huskies, like Sams, are an ancient breed. In some respects they are as dumb as a post, in others, highly intelligent. Bipolar is more like it. They DO tend to run - it's in their nature to run for miles. The 2 we still have are an exception - they know a good deal when they have it.
My advice about pedigreed dogs is this: Buy from a BREEDER, not a pet store or a "backyard breeder" - someone who raises dogs to show. They always have "pet quality" dogs available - there's nothing wrong with them, they just have a fault or faults that prevent them from winning in the show ring. They will come with papers, and a guarantee. They will usually have an insane pedigree, and will be better quality dogs than 99% of the "others" out there.
For Huskies, if they aren't raising their dogs to show, don't buy from them. They are either raising dogs for profit (which doesn't happen, if you do it right - you lose money), or because "we want our kids to see puppies" or "we wanted to breed "Studly".
BTW, our Sams do just fine in the heat. Dogs don't sweat like people do. As long as they don't get overheated, their heavy coats act just like insulation, and keep them cool in the summer. The worst thing you can do is shave them....
