i was wondering what yall think about this situation. my sister is wanting a dog its a siberian husky the breeder lives like five hours away so she has to send a deposit of 100$ to hold it for her until the pick up date march 20. i was wondering if the idae of sending a Money order or a personal check is a good one or if any body knows of any closer breeders...

I used to work with a guy that breeds huskies and he's in Nixon. Not sure of the certifications/registry on of his dogs though.
I agree with JT -doesn't sound like the kind of dog that would be super comfortable here.

They run away. As a character flaw. Has she had one before?

We have Samoyeds, and have had them for many years. At one time, we had one of the top winning Sams in the country.

Huskies are not dogs that do well left alone. They get bored, and tear things up. Like Sams, they are sometimes not so good with kids - kids are puppies to them, that need to know their place. Huskies, like Sams, are an ancient breed. In some respects they are as dumb as a post, in others, highly intelligent. Bipolar is more like it. They DO tend to run - it's in their nature to run for miles. The 2 we still have are an exception - they know a good deal when they have it.

My advice about pedigreed dogs is this: Buy from a BREEDER, not a pet store or a "backyard breeder" - someone who raises dogs to show. They always have "pet quality" dogs available - there's nothing wrong with them, they just have a fault or faults that prevent them from winning in the show ring. They will come with papers, and a guarantee. They will usually have an insane pedigree, and will be better quality dogs than 99% of the "others" out there.

For Huskies, if they aren't raising their dogs to show, don't buy from them. They are either raising dogs for profit (which doesn't happen, if you do it right - you lose money), or because "we want our kids to see puppies" or "we wanted to breed "Studly".

BTW, our Sams do just fine in the heat. Dogs don't sweat like people do. As long as they don't get overheated, their heavy coats act just like insulation, and keep them cool in the summer. The worst thing you can do is shave them....

We have had Siberian Husky's for over 8 years. We were also breeders so we are very familiar with the breed. They are wonderful dogs and very smart in my opinion. We also made the mistake 8 years and purchased a Siberian Husky from a breeder that was selling inbread puppies. They all had their paper work from AKC. My husband had a funny feeling about them but I had to have this beautiful sable husky. Six months later his akc was revoked and they informed us that the breeder was inbreeding and the father did not match DNA testing. When I contacted the breeder she said bring him back and we will give you another one (really you have to be kidding). We love the little guy but he is not the smartest cookie in the box and he has health issues. We finally found a great breeder and all the paper work was been filed with AKC and her babies have also. Our Huskies have never been aggressive with kids and they want to play with everyone!!! They are not good guard dogs but they are wonderful with people and kids. I will look at our paper work today maybe I can get you the name of the good breeder we used. I am totally against puppy mills even if they have "show dogs". I rather purchase from a breeder that treats them like family not baby making machines. Pm me if you want more information .
Honey he is so cute can I have him..... I promise he won't eat the other fish in MY tank!!
