ok its not looking good for my yellow eye tang :( he is almost always crusing around the tank and was when I went to bed last night. I dont light up the tank again till i get home from work so he could have disapeared anytime in the last 16ish hours.

I am holding out hope that he just found a good place to hide for a while. I checked the sump and Drain lines and all the nooks and cranys I can can see into as well as the floor all around.

So if my hermit crabs snails and brittle star got to his dead body would I find anything left or do they eat bones and all. If he has died I really would like to find him so he dont cause an amonia spike. I have moved my returns to differnt angles hoping to blow him out but there has been no signs anywhere.

Poor guy he was one of the few that was always out and about.

I hope you find him. There should still be at least some remains.

Do you have a lid on your tank?....If not, look around/behind your tank....Next, do you have a cat?...

With the few fish I have seen go belly up a CUC leaves no trace in just a few hours. The bones and other hard parts tend to get lost in the rock work pretty quick after being blown around the tank a few times. Hope this isn't the case with your tang though.

Sounds like a jumper, though tang's don't go vertical often. Otherwise, do you have a lot of rock in the tank? You should have seen problem signs...hmmm. Hopefully just hiding. Good luck.

Well still no sign of him. I do have quite a bit of rock in there over 200 lbs in a 110 gal. alot of tonga on top of base stuff with lots of caves and crannies. There is no lid on the tank other than my light. I looked around the tank behind and under the stand :(. I do have 2 dogs so if he did manage to jump out and hit the floor I may find his bones in there poo. But when they find new stuff they usualy stare at it and bark lol.

The true line between a casual hobbyist and a fanatic... If you find yourself rummaging through the dog poo... you may be the latter.

My watchman goby went missing for almost a month and turned up. Just when I gave up hope, I saw two eyes staring back at me in the back of my BioCube. Overlooked after weeks of looking and cleaning the detritus from the chambers. So don't lose hope yet!

Tangs are flat fish. I lost one a few years back that got stuck under a rock in the back on the bottom of the tank. It was a mystery untill I took the tank down months later and found what was left of bones. This was in a bigger tank where its easy to not see a fish for days. Keep looking it will turn up, or at least a peice of it.

Sorry to hear that. If you're seeing a spike in copepods at night, that's usually a sign that he never made it out of the tank.

Yeah, my scopas got wedged in between some rocks and I found him too late also.
