That's part of the reason to use a midwife.
Watch the little video clip above.
C-sections are often the result of other interventions (the clip explains that much better than I could). Think of it like using Red Slime Remover as a quick fix intervention for cyano and how it messes up the biological balance. Chemical quick fixes often come with unwanted side effects.
No, midwives don't generally do c-sections.
They are trained for emergencies and we in large part chose our midwives based on their experience with emergencies. If an emergency occurs they know to see the warning signs early and initiate a transfer.
They're not just little old ladies with a bunch of herbs in their apron -they are trained and licensed medical professionals.
I'm going to add some more resources for the newbies to the original post.
You totally missed out Allan. I think you should have one more just to experience it. It will change how you look at life!

Oh Karin believe me my outlook changed alright. My son was born during a commerical and I saw much more than I ever thought I should have seen. I'm glad I did it, no regrets, but it's not something I go back and do again.
I remember thinking to myself, "Wow... I hope his head doesn't stay like that", but about that time the commercial was over and it was time to get back into "the stand" by S. King.
I don't think it's old ladies... not anymore anyway. I remember watching through the years as their credentials rose to the point where its a bit more respected. My hat off to them, and to you all that can do it... especially those who go more than once.

LOL. I just thought about another resource.
The San Antonio Express News was there for a birth attended by my midwives (not my births - lol)
Here you go:
http://www.mysanantonio.com/moms/Giv...h_at_home.html
You know giving birth at home you can do even more than just watch TV.
For Nikki's birth I went into labor on a Wednesday morning. Went into town and saw the midwives. Since we were in town anyway I went to Polly's Pets (was pre- MAAST membership) and looked at corals (husband said we didn't need to buy corals while in labor but my midwives said I deserve any coral or fish I want and if that's what I want to do then that's what we should do -awesome midwives!).
Bought a coral. Went back home. Had the baby that afternoon (coral was properly acclimated at that time of course)

Karin, or Ma'am,
I can totally see that happening, but we guys don't have that multi tasking ability like you ladies. However I do commend you on your coral shopping abilities while going through labor. I bet between contractions you were acclimating the coral and placing it in the tank with glue and all?

Oh don't ma'am me. I know you must be one of the very few MAASTards older than me! That's why I cut you some slack when you forget about stuff... ;)

For our first child we went with a Dr, then after taking Bradly classes my wife wanted to have the baby at home due to the interventions that are used in a hospital. Since my job it to make sure mama is happy during the pregnacy I said lets look into this. (I was so scared) With some guidence from our Bradly instructor we found the SABirthing center. We went to visit and we change to their support 8 months into the pregnancy.
When talking to people they thought we were crazy cuz in this day and age you have a babies in hospitals and with doctors not some voodoo midwife. I have to admite that before we went to see them I thought the same thing. My mom even did not know if we were doing the right thing for our child, even thought my father and her were born at their respective grandmothers houses.
So let me tell you that I will go with a midwife again, just being there for my wife and the birth of my son, I was the person who first held my son, I dont think our first Dr would have let me be where I was at and let me hold him first.
Well I could go on and on but for anyone I would recommend the Bradly classes, after taking these clases people who had children already were asking my wife and I questions on what to expect during their pregnacy.

That's true! Good info, Richard.
Also if anybody wants to go with an OB msmith619 might have some suggestions (if I remember right he's an OB but specializes in menopause stuff?)
