Amateur analysis (take it with a grain of salt): The wound looks too clean for a bacterial infection. You didn't mention how long he's had the wound. I'm sure you already know, he is severely under weight. Is he losing weight since the wound? Possibly related to malnutrition?

Actually started sometime today. Yesterday i noticed a grey/black discoloration on that side which i really didnt think much of as he turns these colors throughout the day and night. Arriving home today, I noticed the flaking of skin. He's a very picky eater. I obtained from Darbys tropical in New Braunfels about 2 months ago and tried everything. Only thing he will eat is flake food. Even nori on a clip is usually ignored, although he's learning from my other tangs how to eat that.

Put some macro from your fuge in the tank and see if he will eat that. He is seriously under weight. Have you noticed him scraping the rocks.

If you don't have a cleaner wrasse, I would get one. I know some people don't like that, but my Naso and Wrasse are best friends and he's ALWAYS clean since I added the wrasse. I'm lucky because my tang eats everything I put in the tank, but he really goes after Formula One VHP. It's has a gel base so it stays together. I cut it into small chunks and add it in with the brine & mysis. The tang and lawnmower blenny tear it up. Be careful not to use too much because bristleworms love it too. Do you add garlic guard to the food?

I have been searching and haven't come up with any ideas. In the mean time, have you tried formalin or iodine to help heal the wounds? I have both if you need to borrow some.

Haven't noticed him scraping the rocks etc. Other than the slaughing off of tissue he seems fine. I do dose iodine (lugols) and allow their food (pe mysis) to soak in selcon and vitamine C. The flake food is Formula one. With him only interested in the flake food its been hard to get him to eat enough to gain weight. Ive also tried mysis and brine shrimp but he spits it out. Im probably going to get a small 8 gallon tank or so and put him in there for a while. I should never have sold my biocube 8 !
    Thanks for the input guys.

If he is already stressed I don't think putting it in an 8g tank will help. I had a dwarf angel that freaked out and ran into some rocks - looked similar to this wound. You already know he is thin - have you tried garlic soaking the mysis or anything similar to that?
