Thread: AquaC EV series

    Default AquaC EV series

Ok, well I was looking for some opinions on the AquaC EV series protien skimmers. This would be for my 45g display w/ 30g sump, 30g frag tank. I need a good skimmer that will handle anything I throw at it. It would be nice to have a external skimmer, so I can have a bigger refugium. Any opinions would be great. Thanks, Stephen.

I use an AquaC EV120/Mag5 on my 120 gallon tank. I run everything wide open. Has served me well for years. I have to put mine on a stand so that the outlet is above the water level, but that's pretty easy to do.

It's the only one I've ever owned, so I can't compare it to any other.

Anyone else have any experience with these skimmers?

I use Aqua C Urchin Pro with a mag 3 and love it. Ken Koehler talked me into one sometime around 2002/03/04? It has been too long, but Richard from CB pets sold them so I bought one for my 200 and 158. Plug it in and it works, that simple. I have been on this website seeing post about high dollar skimmers having to be adjusted or not skimming, or other problems while my Urchin(which probably isn't large enough) keeps on working with no problems. I would think the Urchin Pro would be plenty big for your 45? Good luck on what ever you choose.

Good deal, the skimmer will be running more than just the 45g. It will also have to handle a 30g frag tank and of corse the water in the 30g sump(probally around 15-20g).

I ran a 240 with a mag12 on my 120 long with 55 gal sump that held about 35 gal. It worked like a champ. Right now another ABIMAS member has hijacked it for the last 4 months or so for his big tank. He doesn’t want to give it back since it works so well. Well that and I have no use for it right now.

I have a EV-240 and I love it. The first time around I had trouble running it with a Quiet One 6000 and never could get it working right. I have it running now with a Mag 12 and could not be happier. Look for pictures of it in the thread I'm starting today.
