Thumbs up Damsel ID... ***a great reef damsel***

Ok.... so if you have seen my tank we have probably talked about the blue damsel I have that no one can ever seem to ID. I have had him for over 3 years now and is actually the one fish that has been with me the longest.

He has always been in a reef setup with me....but I could never ID him....no one could. I'm talking countless hours of searching photos online.

Well, my man Justin (Justahobby) finally found an ID for me...who would have ever thought it was on Live Aquaria all along. : 0

Now it's easy to find online, now that I have a name.

    Blue Sapphire Damselfish
    (Chrysiptera springeri)

I picked up mine from Jason at AD when they were at their old shop...3 years ago.

Great reef fish. Very peaceful, NEVER bothers any other fish and they don't bother him.

    Just thought I would share.

    Thanks again Justin.

I also want to note...that live aquaria says they reach 3.5"....that has to be a mistake...mine is only about 1" maybe 1.5"...always has been for the last 3 years...it has always been.

Other sites confirm my info. They state 5cm or about 2" max size.

I'm thinking about doing a whole school of them in my tank since I haven't had much luck lately with the expensive fish.

    We'll see....

    According to fishbase:

    Size / Weight / Age
Max length : 5.5 cm TL male/unsexed (approx. 2.1 inches)

What a beaut! I've always liked em -- seen em around in 'misc damsels' tanks, but always worried they'd be as bad as the blue devils

The other links I sent seem to have a more accurate idea of their max size. You never can tell with liveaquaria. If you go to their damsel section right now it doesn't list the springeri damsel. But typing the name in search will pull it up. I am def. considering these as an alternative to chromis that are too large for a shoal in my tank.

Jason use to keep schools in his tanks because they eat pests. Like I said I have never had a problem with aggression and I keep a very peaceful tank.

Justin, I'm also considering replacing my chromis with these guys. Maybe I'll keep one chromis just for the different blue....but then again...my chromis school of 4 live in my purple valida colony and it is so sweet to see them chilling in SPS...granted they are killing it from the base....probably because I don't have enough flow to keep their waste from sitting on it.,,,hmmm might have to direct some flow at it....just kind of thought of it as I was typing this. LOL.

I just asked Ed (one of our sponsors, EdAquatics) if he can get them.

Maybe he will chime in...or I'll let everyone know what he says.

Cool fish. I would like to hear from others that might have kept this one also. If it is peaceful that would be awesome. You sure you didn't get the only friendly one Rob?
